OmniOn Power Boosts Optical Network Efficiency with 2800-Watt Power Supplies

04/15/2025 Press Releases

  • New HPR-series power supplies provide highly reliable and efficient power for the latest optical networking, server, and storage equipment.
  • Both a high-powered AC/DC rectifier and a compatible DC/DC converter are available, helping to meet customers’ power needs.

With rising network demands requiring more processing power and features, OmniOn Power has introduced its new HPR2812TEX12 and HPR2812DCX12, the first products in its high-power HPR-series product family. The 2.8-kilowatt (kW) AC/DC rectifier and DC/DC converter provide the high reliability, efficiency, and power density required by the latest optical networking, server, and storage equipment — with mean time between failures greater than 1.5 million hours at 40°C.

“Today’s optical networking and data center applications require more power than ever before to support innovative artificial intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT) applications,” said Vito Savino, data center and wireline segment leader for OmniOn Power. “This increase in computing demand has put an even larger emphasis on power density and efficiency in these applications. Our new HPR-series power supplies provide the high power output required in compact footprints and with high reliability, efficiencies, and power densities.”

The HPR2812TEX12 rectifier features a 90-264-volt AC input range and a 12.3VDC output, providing 2.8kW of output power at 80 PLUS® Titanium efficiencies exceeding 96% and with a power density of up to 69W/in3. The HPR2812DCX12 DC/DC converter accepts a 36-72VDC input providing 2.8kW of power at a 12.3V output, with no derating at input voltages above 40V and at 45-degree C temperatures. The converter is designed to be output, size, and connector compatible with the rectifier, with efficiencies exceeding 94% and a power density of 69W/in3. Both the HPR rectifier and converter come in a compact form factor, measuring 1.57” tall by 7.68” deep and 3.39” wide.

The 2.8kW output power provided by this pair of power supplies is among the highest available today in similar footprints. It allows customers to design more powerful systems without the need to parallel lower-powered rectifiers or converters, and it enables them to easily upgrade existing AC-input and DC-input systems to support added functionality and increased processing power.

The power supplies leverage back-to-front airflow for cooling, feature output overvoltage and overcurrent protection, and include a PMBus® communication interface for control, programming, and monitoring.

The HPR-series power supplies are designed for a range of applications across networking and data center environments that require 12V distributed architecture systems, including optical line terminals, cloud computing, computer-aided design, disaggregated memory banks, aggregation routers, and switches.
