OmniOn Power’s VoltScaler boost converter system provides power to remote radio heads (RRH) while compensating for cable voltage drop. The system uses DC/DC converters to boost the power plant voltage to offset the cable drop, allowing for the use of smaller cables or higher power RRH units connected to existing cables. Precise control of the voltage at the radio head improves performance and optimizes power efficiency and battery reserve time.
VoltScaler’s modular design allows for efficient system scaling to meet changing needs. Each converter module houses three independent circuits, and up to six modules can be configured into a 2RU system. Each circuit provides a maximum output of 2,708 Watts at 73Vdc. After mitigating the voltage drop in the feeder cable, each circuit delivers about 2,000W at 54Vdc at the RRH input. The boost converters feature an integrated bypass function which can automatically pass the input power directly to the load connections if a converter or circuit fails.
Modules in the VoltScaler system communicate with a local controller which enables precise feature settings and remote monitoring and control of each circuit in the system.
